It is recommended that Canadian students apply at least 2 months prior to their intended start date.

Application Procedures for Full-Time September Admission

To enrol full-time in Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig for September 08 admission, you must apply via the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC). You can either apply on-line at www.ouac.on.ca or request a paper application from OUAC by calling (519) 823-1940.

Use application 101 if you are currently enrolled in an Ontario high school, otherwise, use application 105.

*Please note: Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig is a partner with Algoma University; therefore, you must select the Algoma University link and scroll down until you can select Shingwauk's course codes.

All official transcripts (high school, university, and college) must be sent directly to:

Part-time Canadian Students 

You can apply online at www.algomau.ca/applyonline or have a faxed hard copy 
All part-time applicants must apply directly to Shingwauk.   

1)   Complete the Algoma U application form.

2)   Send official transcripts (you can request this to be directly sent to Algoma U from the institution         that you are transferring from, just contact the Registrar's Office). 

3)   Send non-refundable $50 (CND funds) application fee payable to Algoma U

Transferring credits

University Transfer When transferring from another university applicants who have successfully completed university-level courses with a minimum grade of 60% may receive credit-for-credit toward a degree program at Shingwauk. College Transfer Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig Candidates presenting a G.P.A. of "C" or better on a one year diploma program may be admitted, but will not receive credit toward the degree program. Graduates of a 2 or 3 year diploma program may receive course recognition as a part of the diploma-to-degree completion program. In addition to the College-University Arts Degree Completion Program (CAAT) and advanced standing policies, Algoma University has a number of articulation agreements with various colleges to enhance student mobility through formal recognition of credits and programs at each institution.

A typical full-time student will enrol in 30-credits per academic year (15 credits per semester).

BOOKS = approximately $800 - $1000 per year
PARKING Fees = $60.00 per semester or $3.00 upon each exit
ON-CAMPUS HOUSING = $3600.00 (no meal plan) - $6200.00 (includes meal plan)per year.

Full-time September Application Procedures

 

1.     If you are Canadian or Anishinabek(born-in-Canada) and are enrolling full-time at Algoma University(including Shingwauk Kinomage Gamig) for September admission, you must apply via the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC). Steps for applying on-line

When you apply online, we(Algoma & Shingwauk) are able to process your application more quickly.  It is easy to do:

·       Complete the online application form;

·       Print a copy for your records;  

·       Submit the application; and  

·       Send your transcripts and a non-refundable $50 (Canadian Funds) application fee to the address provided below.

Application Procedures for All Other Intakes (May, January or Part time September)

Students applying for January, May, or part-time September studies must apply directly to Algoma University College. You can request a paper application by emailing info@algomau.ca or phone 705.949.2301 ext 4217. Or you can apply on-line by visiting www.algomau.ca/applyonline 

 

In order to process your application, the following three items must be sent directly to Algoma University:

  1. Completed application (email on-line application or mail paper application)
  2. All official transcripts (high school, college, and university if applicable)
  3. A non-refundable $50 (CDN funds) application fee payable to Algoma University.

 

Mature Student Application Procedures

The university will consider for admission mature students whose previous school performance or recent work record suggests a strong possibility for academic success. Mature students should follow the application procedures previously listed; however, the following additional documents are required:

  • Resume
  • Letter or Reference (Positive letter from a former employer or someone who feels that you will be able to succeed at university level studies)
  • Letter Stating Goals
  • Official Transcripts (If you have not been away from high school for more than 10 years an official transcript is required)

Mature students are those individuals who are at least 21 years of age, out of school for at least 1 year, and who do not have 6 U/M courses or post secondary education


Registration Procedures

 

New Students:

Once issued a letter of admission students may then register for courses. If you require assistance with Shingwauk course selection please contact Amy Sayers, Shingwauk Kinomage Gamig 942.5069 or email asayers@shingwauk.ca and for Algoma U course selection Sarah Crowell, Anishinabe Student Advisor at sarah.crowell@algomau.ca, 949-2301 ext 4815.  Please visit the Registrar’s Office with the courses you choose to enrol in.  Shingwauk Enrollments are strongly encouraged to meet with Shingwauk Staff as they will be able to provide you with an overview of the Shingwauk Kinomage Gamig courses.

 

Current or Returning Students:

To register for courses please visit the Office of the Register at Algoma University (Room 312).  If you have been away from studies for five or more terms you will be required to complete an application form for readmission ($15 readmission fee will apply).  If you have attended another institution since your last registration at Algoma U you will be required to submit an official transcript prior to registration. 

 

Payment Information for First Nation Sponsored Students

At the time of registration students will be required to provide band sponsorship information to Student Accounts Officer, Cindy Jacobs.  Please make certain that the necessary steps have been completed with your First Nation representative prior to registering.  If possible, please bring your sponsorship letter with you, if you do not have this letter we will fax your registration and invoice to your band office.  In the event that there is no band sponsorship information a $200 deposit will be required at time of registration.  If student is registering for a course on a Letter of Permission they will need to provide credit card information, cheque, or money order as the fees are due in full.

Crane Symbol

Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig was founded to fulfill the vision of Ojibway Chief Shingwauk. Chief Shingwauk belonged to the crane clan, he signed documents with this symbol.
